What it often looks like
Depression is not only sadness. It is frequently described as flatness, or as everything simply costing more effort than it used to.
- Waking early or sleeping far too much
- Losing interest in things you used to enjoy
- Everyday tasks feeling enormous
- Withdrawing from friends and family
- Being unusually harsh with yourself
- Appetite or weight changing noticeably
- Difficulty concentrating or deciding
- Feeling numb rather than sad
How therapy helps
Depression tends to convince people that nothing will help, which is part of the illness rather than a fact about you. Treatment works, and it works better the sooner it starts.
Therapy looks at what is maintaining the low mood — thinking patterns, isolation, unresolved loss, life circumstances that have not been named out loud — and at rebuilding the small daily things that lift mood before motivation returns. Motivation usually follows action rather than preceding it.
Where medication may help, that is discussed openly and coordinated with your doctor. It is your decision.

Getting started
Send an enquiry or call 072 050 7773. You do not need a referral.
If you are in immediate danger, please go to your nearest emergency room or contact emergency services straight away. Therapy is important, but it is not an emergency service.

After that, it is just a conversation with someone whose job is to help.
